Giclee Printing - Additional Information

Original Art

For best results, send us your original artwork for color matching. If you do not have digital file, we can photograph your artwork using a special digital scanning back that is calibrated and optimized for fine art reproduction.

Digital File Submission

We only recommend use of digital camera image capture if performed by a skilled professional using very high-end equipment. Since giclee’ prints are imaged with CMYK inks, we view and edit files in CMYK mode. If your files are currently RGB, please do not convert to CMYK. Instead, let us handle this process for maximum quality control and consistency. We accept PhotoShop PSD format as well as TIFF, EPS, and JPEG. If you use JPEG, it must be saved on the High or Maximum Quality setting. Digital files need to have 150-350 dpi resolution at final size. Less resolution will affect image quality.

Proofing

Customer supplied prints are often made on inexpensive and uncalibrated equipment, making it difficult or impossible to match. Customer monitor calibration, or lack thereof, can also interject variables that lead to print color results that are different than you anticipated. For these reasons, it is imperative that we image test proofs for you to examine. We have many years experience adjusting color for fine art reproductions. By referencing your original art, we can adjust color and then image as many proofs as needed.

Proofs are normally imaged at approximately 8x10. Some customers order a full view 8x10 while others choose to see a small section of their art at 100% size. 8x10 Epson Proofs are $20 each and are mailed USPS First Class at no charge; faster delivery is available at an extra charge.

Samples

Palm-sized sample prints from our file drawer are available upon request, sent via USPS First Class mail at no charge. Please specify which sample material you would like to see: canvas, watercolor paper, or semimatte photo paper.

Pricing

Photography of original art will vary from $75 to $175, depending on the final size you require. Subsequent color correction to fine tune the digital file can be done for $90 per hour, billed in tenth hour increments. Small proofs can be imaged and sent to you for approval for an extra charge.

The following giclee’ print pricing is based on square inches of live image area. We include a two inch border for canvas prints at no additional cost. We use Epson archival quality materials and Ultrachrome Inks. Archival properties are 65 years or better under glass in office lighting environment.
